Welcome to

St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church: Brooks + Tide Lake Mission

We are a diverse, vibrant Roman Catholic community nestled in the heart of Southern Alberta, where God and the Holy Eucharist serves as a guiding light, illuminating the path to spiritual growth and communal harmony. Our presence as a proud cornerstone of the Brooks Newell Region is focused on the teachings of Jesus Christ through encounters, education, and compassionate deeds that appear throughout our local communities.

Pastoral Renewal Year III:
Lighting The Fire of Renewal

We have begun the third year of our Parish Renewal journey. On this occasion, Bishop McGrattan encourages us to enter more deeply into a personal conversion to Christ and to commence our Parish Renewal missions.  Listen to his full message at catholicyyc.ca/renewal

BROOKS WARD TRUSTEE CANDIDATES

  • Shane Grove

    BROOKS WARD TRUSTEE CANDIDATE

My name is Shane Grove and I have put name forward to run in the election to become our Catholic School Trustee in the upcoming election. I have called Duchess/Brooks home for 49 years. I have been a parishioner at St. Mary’s for 7 years and in that time have been helping with the RCIA program for the past 5 years.

My four children are either enrolled or have recently graduated from the family of Christ the Redeemer Schools here in Brooks.  I have seen and appreciate the work that our Schools do in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ while also providing a world class education for the students. My goal if chosen during the election is to put my skills to work helping any way I can to continue this important mission.

  • Christoph "Chris" Neeser

    BROOKS WARD TRUSTEE CANDIDATE

I believe that the Lord is calling me to speak on behalf of the many parents and grand parents who, with much sorrow, see their children and grand children turn away from the Church. We all want to give to our children the best we have, the most precious of which is certainly our Faith.

If elected to the office of trustee, I will, with the grace of God, seek to support our superintendent in her efforts to renew Christ the Redeemer's mission towards an ever more faith filled community of students, teachers and parents. I will work toward stronger integration of our school communities with our parish.  I am sure many of you have suggestions of things that could be done. It will be my role to be your champion in promoting activities to build a parish community where more of our students play a central role.

About myself: I have been actively involved in parish ministry since 2010 and I served on Parent Council from 2013 to 2019. I have attended Christ the Redeemer Faith Day retreats and have been involved in the early stages of GrACE Alberta (Grateful Advocates for Catholic Education).  My most memorable experience, while chairing the Saint Joseph's Collegiate Parent Council, was the challenge to our Faith posed by a government that supported ideologies deeply opposed to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

  • Michelle Gietz

    BROOKS WARD TRUSTEE CANDIDATE

Michelle Gietz believes in fostering her faith through service.  Growing up in Scandia, her parents taught her the essence of faithfully serving God and community.  Actively involved in all the community parishes in which she has lived she has participated in parish life as a lector, confirmation instructor, volunteer for VBS, youth retreat organizer and participant on local school councils. She moved with her husband and young family to Memphis in 1996.  An advocate for Catholic education she became actively involved in St. Michael’s Parish and School Board where their children attended elementary school.

Professionally, Michelle has 10 years of teaching agricultural economics at colleges in Ontario, Manitoba and Tennessee. As an associate professor of economics at Southwest Tennessee Community College, she participated in the Facilities Committee, Faculty Senate and Student Appeals Committee.  She is currently the Executive Director of the Brooks Community Adult Learning Council which provides Literacy and English language training to 600 adult students.

Michelle and her husband Ron returned to Alberta in 2009 and reside on a farm just south of Brooks.  They have been married for 35 years and raised 5 children, all of whom graduated from St. Joseph’s Collegiate.

Get informed, join the Brooks Ward Trustee Candidate’s Forum on October 19th, 2:00pm at
